[Feature Request] Bring Usage Summary to Pro/Max Claude Code Users

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Jul 9, 2025 by macsete Closed Jul 9, 2025

The current situation

There is currently a feature disparity between different types of users.

While API users have access to the excellent /cost command to get an immediate summary of token usage for an interaction, this crucial observability feature is missing for paying subscribers on the Pro and Max plans.

This is particularly relevant for Pro users who need to manage their usage limits effectively. Without this feedback, it's difficult to learn how to write more efficient and cost-effective prompts.

The solution

I propose extending the /cost command to the Claude Code Pro and Max subscribers.

Additional context

Providing this feature would significantly improve the value of the Pro/Max subscriptions. It would empower users to:

  • Better manage their usage and understand the limits of the Pro and Max plans.
  • Learn how to write more efficient prompts by seeing the immediate token impact.

For reference, see what gemini-cli provides its users. Notably, this summary is available even for those on the free tier using personal accounts, not just API customers.

Thank you for building such a great product and for considering this request to make it even better.
