The issue is Cowork on WINDOWS Arm (not mac), which is not yet supported

samtoksta · 4 months ago

When will Windows on ARM be supported for cowork?

pontab · 4 months ago

Please add support for Windows on ARM soon, love to use cowork on my everyday laptop, not just on my backup pc or mac mini.

Madex1987 · 4 months ago

+1 for ARM support on Windows.

I'm running a Snapdragon-based laptop and Cowork is the only reason I'd consider switching back to x64. ARM devices are becoming increasingly common in enterprise environments : Surface Pro, Copilot+ PCs, etc. ... so this limitation is a real blocker for a growing segment of your user base.

No pressure on a timeline, but even a rough ETA or a confirmation that this is on the roadmap would be hugely appreciated.

Anthropic PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEEASE release ARM support on Windows. Some of us use MS Surface Pro.

Another one in need of support for ARM. Just cancelled my personal Claude Pro subscription due to the inability to use Cowork in my Surface Pro. Looking forward to re-activate Pro the minute Cowork on ARM is available.

cjdev30 · 4 months ago

My daily driver is ARM based and would love to see cowork working on it soon please.

debruineh · 4 months ago

All of our cetnral office team now run Snapdragon laptops! they are also the primary candidates for Cowork, so this going to be key for us getting a broader user base!

OWLchemy · 4 months ago

I'm in the same boat, please provide support for cowork on Snapdragon machines! Please!!!!

resultsmanager · 4 months ago

+1 for ARM / Snapdragon support as using a Surface Pro 11.

Do note that although this is a Pro hardware Microsoft actually ship these out (as do other OEMs with their Snapdragons) with the Windows 11 Home operating system that is missing VM features… can’t tell whether these are needed for Cowork…

And although the upgrade to Pro is cheap in the US it is over the equivalent of $100 in other markets. So if you proceed to support Snapdragon please be very clear as to what the requisites are - is Windows 11 Home enough or is Pro required?!

+1 , why doesn't it exist yet ?
To make this work you just need to use the ARM compiler instead of x64 compiler.
I don't understand why this has not be out yet.

Still praying for ARM support on windows, because this laptops are super great (28 hours autonomy, faster then my meteor lake laptops and full NPU 45tops)

The compiler can hardly be the problem as they already have code running. If cowork need some kind of pseudo device drivers that would explain it, everything else can just be emulated if need be.

+1 here too.

Anthropic, please hurry this along! Surface Pro 11 user here. I'd hate to switch over to my older and heavier laptop just for Cowork.

oddrationale · 3 months ago

Hopefully this is coming soon! I'm not associated with any of these products or companies, but here's my hypothesis.

Claude Code uses bun as its native installer. Anthropic acquired bun late last year.

However, until a few weeks ago, bun did not natively support Windows ARM64. With that blocker now gone, hopefully progress can be made on this soon!

PunchMonkey176 · 3 months ago

+1 on this. Adding my voice here — I'm on a Windows ARM device and Cowork is the main reason I'm subscribed to a paid Claude plan. Right now I can't use it at all since only x64 is supported. With more ARM-based Windows laptops shipping (Snapdragon X series, etc.), this feels like an increasingly important gap to close. Would appreciate any update on whether ARM support is on the roadmap. Happy to help test early builds if needed.

eduardosanantonio · 3 months ago

ARM Compatibility, Come on!! at least say when!!! makes no sense to pay a suscription without cowork.

DarrylC73 · 3 months ago

Any chance of letting us know a date..

jrossey · 3 months ago

Need it for my Asus Zenbook Snapdragon!

kristiankimbro · 3 months ago

+1 -- I have an ARM-based Surface Pro 11 Snapdragon x Elite. It's becoming more urgent as others embrace Cowork. An estimated delivery date would be great -- if it's going to be awhile, that'll tell me if I need to get an alternative non-ARM device as a temp solution. Also happy to test early releases to provide feedback.

I suppose the issue is 3rd party dependencies in the VM for ARM that cowork spins up.

I would even be willing to complete this tech task for Anthropic for free - if only they were open source or welcomed PRs.

co work for arm64 please, shows you can download now but after downloading still says needs a reinstall and goes around in circles

Taxstra · 3 months ago

I'm able to back into it on Arm64, but says there needs to be a new installer and can't actually do anything. I had Claude look at the Powershell logs and it says the Yukonsilver VM is explicitly rejecting win32/arm64 as a platform. I am no where near an expert (just figured out Github at a high level a month ago), so I have no clue what that means, but seems to be some kind of progress? Was able to get to this screen in Claude Desktop by clicking Get Apps and Extensions -> Cowork Section -> Open

So, I found a workaround for the installer issue (with help from claude).

  1. Uninstall previous version(s), i.e.:
  • Remove-Item -Recurse -Force "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\AnthropicClaude"
  • Remove-Item -Recurse -Force "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Claude"
  1. Manually download the msix-package from https://claude.ai/api/desktop/win32/x64/msix/latest/redirect
  2. I used elevated terminal, Add-AppxPackage -Path "$env:USERPROFILE\Downloads\Claude.msix", but "Run as administrator" will probably work as well
  3. Start the new version via the start menu!

See the threads. Working on my surface Pro 11 - Elite ARM64. It gave me errors on the fIrst line of unistall but the second command line worked fine. Restarted and then downloaded the msix installer. Ran the install via admin terminal. After it set up workspace had to kill it in task manager and restart. WORKING!!!

Restarting Claude or the computer doesn’t resolve anything here. Or a reinstallation of the workspace for that matter. Hopefully somebody is working on fixing this right now 😊 <img alt="Image" width="1194" height="810" src="https://private-user-images.githubusercontent.com/270887126/569149837-048e8c38-553d-4bcd-915d-d5e94d82ec66.png?jwt=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpc3MiOiJnaXRodWIuY29tIiwiYXVkIjoicmF3LmdpdGh1YnVzZXJjb250ZW50LmNvbSIsImtleSI6ImtleTUiLCJleHAiOjE3NzQ0NTUxMDEsIm5iZiI6MTc3NDQ1NDgwMSwicGF0aCI6Ii8yNzA4ODcxMjYvNTY5MTQ5ODM3LTA0OGU4YzM4LTU1M2QtNGJjZC05MTVkLWQ1ZTk0ZDgyZWM2Ni5wbmc_WC1BbXotQWxnb3JpdGhtPUFXUzQtSE1BQy1TSEEyNTYmWC1BbXotQ3JlZGVudGlhbD1BS0lBVkNPRFlMU0E1M1BRSzRaQSUyRjIwMjYwMzI1JTJGdXMtZWFzdC0xJTJGczMlMkZhd3M0X3JlcXVlc3QmWC1BbXotRGF0ZT0yMDI2MDMyNVQxNjA2NDFaJlgtQW16LUV4cGlyZXM9MzAwJlgtQW16LVNpZ25hdHVyZT0xNTk4YjdhNDlhOTg4MTJlOTRlZGU5OWEyMGI0ZTRhOGZkZGVjYmY5MDU4YjkyY2E0NWVlZTFhYTk5NjA3YjZhJlgtQW16LVNpZ25lZEhlYWRlcnM9aG9zdCJ9._dbayLuzh5jt3F4NzwKua_eJR2rdizPEj5Gtf6RmSuM">

Just do what the new threads say. IT IS WORKING ON MY SURFACE PRO 11 ELITE ARM64!!!

It worked in my Snapdragon X Elite (Asus Vivobook), but I followed these steps:

  1. Remove the previous Claude Desktop
  2. Download the msix installer from http://claude.ai/api/desktop/win32/arm64/msix/latest/redirect (see this is slightly different from the url proposed by @pontab).

Then, it worked!

Cowork doesn't work on Windows 11 Home ARM — Hyper-V not available

Device: Asus A14 (Snapdragon X)
OS: Windows 11 Home, Build 26200.8037

Cowork fails because Hyper-V doesn't exist on Windows 11 Home ARM — the packages aren't present at all, so there's no workaround. The standard Hyper-V Home hack (injecting via DISM) also fails as there are no Hyper-V .mum packages in the servicing directory.
VirtualMachinePlatform and HypervisorPlatform are both enabled, but that's not enough for Cowork's VM to start.
The only fix is upgrading to Windows 11 Pro, which isn't reasonable to ask of users just to run a preview feature. Windows 11 Home ships on most consumer ARM laptops so this is likely blocking a lot of people.

Request: Support a non-Hyper-V backend (e.g. WSL2) or at minimum document that Pro is required.

I'm on Windows 11 Pro, and Hyper-V is enabled. I'm getting stuck at this stage:

Yesterday's release added support for Cowork on Windows ARM64 - you can download at https://claude.com/download (FYI we recently updated the links), and the support article https://support.claude.com/en/articles/13345190-get-started-with-cowork has been updated to reflect this.

Going to mark this issue as resolved - please open a new issue if you run into any problems. Thanks!

I'm able to back into it on Arm64, but says there needs to be a new installer.
