[Bug] Long-running sessions with multiple compacts cause severe input latency

Question

**Bug Description**
Long running sessions, with multiple compacts, become very unresponsive.
Typing in a command, one has to wait for it to appear. And one just cant start a new session because we have so much context that just cant be dropped without documenting things first.
