Description

Claude Code frequently gets stuck ("Photosynthesizing" state) and stops
making progress on simple tasks. This happens multiple times per session.

Environment

• Claude Code version: [run claude --version in a separate terminal]
• Model: claude-opus-4-6
• OS: macOS (Darwin 25.3.0)
• Shell: zsh

Steps to reproduce

1. Start a conversation with a simple task (e.g., edit one file)
2. Claude begins processing but freezes mid-task
3. Terminal shows "Photosynthesizing" with no progress
4. Pressing ESC and retrying often leads to the same freeze

Expected behavior

Simple tasks should complete without hanging.

Actual behavior

Claude hangs for extended periods. Sometimes recovers,
sometimes requires killing the session with Ctrl+C.

Frequency

Happens multiple times per session, especially with long conversations.

What Should Happen?

When I ask Claude Code to perform a simple task (e.g., edit a single file,
run a command), it frequently freezes in "Photosynthesizing" state and makes
no progress. The terminal becomes unresponsive — no output, no tool calls,
nothing happens. Pressing ESC and retrying often leads to the same freeze.

This happens multiple times per session, especially as the conversation
grows longer. The only workaround is killing the session (Ctrl+C) and
starting a new one with /clear.

Expected: Simple tasks should complete within seconds.
Actual: Claude hangs indefinitely with no visible progress or error.
