[FEATURE] This is just a thought (based on the current massive api outage), you guys need to allow for user choose a local claude model.

Problem Statement

Current anthropic business model relies heavily on servers.

Obviously the massive api outage, especially when you are at a scale that influences thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of companies at current state.

Not only that, the recent chinese companies distillation methods showcases a clear problem.

you have no deterministic defense against api failures.

you are allowing the chinese market to capitalize on the local model market, for 1 reason only:
Your fear that whatever "local" model you deploy will be used to develop their own models.

I dont think thats an optimal way of looking at the landscape or even preparing for the future.

I think you guys are underestimating the general direction of where ai is heading. As anthropic, open ai, and google, the us based companies start hogging more and more of large scale compute and gpus produced by nvidia and amd, entities outside of that club, will LITERALLY have no option BUT to focus on the development of smaller models, and, whether you like it or not, EVERYONE will use claude to better what they are working on, trying their best to balance alignment to terms of service and their own motives for building a local agentic system.

Proposed Solution

Im not a genius, but I think I have some ideas.

Figure out an encryption mechanism, possibly via a blockchain.

Or even, just.. open up your haiku model (or a variant) to the open source landscape.

If you guys are able to come up with a safely encrypted, free with subscription use of a local model (still only unlocked via api key), and users have no reason to switch to other (cheaper) providers as they are at least able to use the free to use (since it uses local hardware resources) model, youd destroy minimax, kimi, open ai.

Its unfathomable to me that you guys have the resources, the giant heavyweight models that can directly distill their knowledge into local, tiny versions, and instead of just actually owning it and releasing it as a product, you basically let chinese bootleggers do it.

you cant sue them, china doesnt give a f**k. But, what you can do, is destroy their market (unless you want to do some healthy research competition, which, I dont thinkl is the vibe currently. (also just... buy ollama.. or make a closed sourced version of it... jeez)
