[BUG] Cowork tab not showing on Windows 10 Home — Hyper-V not available

Resolved 💬 8 comments Opened Feb 16, 2026 by MS770MS Closed Feb 26, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

The Cowork tab does not appear in the Claude Desktop app on Windows 10 Home. Only "Chat" and "Code" tabs are visible in the top navigation — there is no "Cowork" option.

I am on the Max plan. I received a notification on the web version that Cowork is available for me, and I can see Cowork settings in the desktop app's Settings panel. However, the actual Cowork tab/mode never appears.

I have tried:

  • Updating to the latest version (1.1.3189)
  • Fully quitting and relaunching the app multiple times
  • Clearing cache
  • Logging out and back in

Suspected root cause: Windows 10 Home does not include Hyper-V, which Cowork's VM (yukonSilver) likely requires. My hardware supports virtualization (VT-x enabled in BIOS), but Windows 10 Home edition does not ship with Hyper-V.

Similar issues (#25136, #25142) were reported for Windows 11 but have been marked as resolved. This appears to be a separate issue specific to Windows 10 Home.

What Should Happen?

The Cowork tab should appear alongside "Chat" and "Code" in the top navigation bar of the Claude Desktop app on Windows 10 Home. If Windows 10 Home is not supported due to Hyper-V requirements, this should be clearly documented, and the Cowork settings should not appear in the Settings panel (to avoid user confusion).

Error Messages/Logs

No error messages are shown. The Cowork tab simply does not appear. Cowork settings are visible in Settings but the tab itself is missing.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Claude Desktop v1.1.3189 on Windows 10 Home (Build 19045)
  2. Log in with a Max plan account
  3. Look at the top navigation bar — only "Chat" and "Code" tabs appear
  4. Check Settings > Cowork — settings are visible but the Cowork tab itself never shows
  5. Quit the app fully (system tray > quit), relaunch — still no Cowork tab
  6. Clear cache, log out and back in — still no Cowork tab
