Preflight Checklist

  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Seconds after invoking claude and any prompt, memory usages spikes to around 10 GiB and freezes my system. This happens even with command prompts like /config.

My system:

% claude update
Current version: 2.1.29
Checking for updates to stable version...
Claude Code is up to date (2.1.29)

    Hardware Overview:

      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: Mac14,7
      Model Number: Z16R000BSD/A
      Chip: Apple M2
Total Number of Cores: 8 (4 performance and 4 efficiency)
      Memory: 16 GB
      System Firmware Version: 13822.61.10

What Should Happen?

Claude code should not consume giga-bytes of memory on simple commands.
