[BUG] Current input is not saved to history

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Jan 30, 2026 by smurfix Closed Jan 30, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude in the terminal does not remember edited prompts.

This happened to me in a multi-line edit, when I pressed Up once too often by mistake. Owch.

What Should Happen?

Edited prompts should be in the history as-edited, not (or maybe in addition to) as-sent-to-Claude.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start Claude (terminal)
  2. enter a few prompts
  3. go back (cursor-up) and edit one of them, but do not press Enter
  4. do another cursor-up, then cursor-down (or vice versa)
  5. your edit is lost
