[BUG] Claude Code not stopping or killing process when requested.

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Jan 19, 2026 by codefhir Closed Jan 23, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude Code keeps processing even when there is a directive in Claude.md to stop whenever it is requested or to kill a process when it is taking too long. I expend almost half on my day with this issue today. This issue consumes time, resources and money since I am in the $200 plan. When can we have a fix for this?

What Should Happen?

It should stop or kill the current process and wait for instructions. Instead it keeps going and going wasting time and resources and money.

Error Messages/Logs

The error is "I apologize...."

Steps to Reproduce

Make Claude Code do a high memory processing task like processing 40 megabytes of clinical data and it will take long and long and long, when you tell it to kill the process it does not, it basically ignores every command.
