When using Claude Code's input prompt, the macOS system dictation feature (triggered by pressing the Function/fn key twice) does not work reliably. Sometimes it requires multiple attempts to activate, or doesn't activate at all.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Open Claude Code in terminal
- Click in the input prompt area
- Press the fn (Function) key twice quickly to activate macOS dictation
- Observe that dictation often fails to start
Expected Behavior:
Dictation should start reliably on the first double-press of the fn key, as it does in other applications.
Actual Behavior:
Dictation frequently fails to activate, requiring multiple attempts or not working at all.
Environment:
- Claude Code Version: 2.0.37
- macOS Version: 26.2 (Build 25C56)
Additional Context:
- This issue is specific to Claude Code - macOS dictation works correctly in all other applications
- Dictation settings in System Settings → Keyboard → Dictation are configured correctly
Workaround:
Changing the dictation trigger to a keyboard shortcut (e.g., "Press Left Command Key Twice") instead of the fn key double-press may work better.
