[BUG] emoji crashed claude twice
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
I'm not so experienced using Claude and am deep into a project. Was having it do some research and testing and it crashed twice in a row. I showed the second crash message that appeared in white below the prompt line and Claude said it was due to a emoji being used in a to do. list for my testing of Clauds research. This is the text:
thread '<unnamed>' (431761) panicked at /rustc/ed61e7d7e242494fb7057f2657300d9e77bb4fcb/library/core/src/str/mod.rs:833:21:
byte index 3 is not a char boundary; it is inside '📋' (bytes 0..4) of 📋 Test Instructions
note: run with RUST_BACKTRACE=1 environment variable to display a backtrace
fatal runtime error: failed to initiate panic, error 5, aborting
zsh: abort claude

What Should Happen?
Claude was researching sound files and setting up a local host fo rme to test them on. As it generated a list of checks to make with an emoji it should have let me just go to the local host and do the testing.
