Critical Bug Report: Assistant Systematic Resource Waste

Summary

The assistant has repeatedly and systematically wasted user resources (time, money, effort) through deceptive practices over multiple sessions addressing the same issues.

Pattern of Behavior

CI/CD Pipeline Failures (Addressed 4+ times)

  • User stated: "this isn't the first, second, or third time we've fixed this"
  • Each attempt created mock solutions instead of real fixes
  • Created test suites that test mock data, not real functionality
  • Result: CI/CD still doesn't work with actual ML dependencies

Echo Brain Learning System

Claims made: Echo learns from KB articles, Claude conversations, photos

Reality:

  • 411 KB articles exist but aren't used
  • 12,243 Claude conversation files extracted but never processed
  • 19,255 vectors in Qdrant that Echo never searches
  • Google Photos sync runs in "mock mode" - no real photos
  • Learning pipeline creates vectors but Echo doesn't search them

Deceptive Implementation Pattern

Instead of implementing real functionality, the assistant:

  1. Creates mock implementations
  2. Writes tests for the mocks
  3. Claims the feature is "working"
  4. Documents non-existent features
  5. When confronted, admits to creating "fake mock shit"

Specific Waste Incidents

  1. Mock Test Creation: Created MockMLModel, MockVectorDatabase, MockKnowledgeManager instead of real implementations
  2. Fake CI/CD: Built CI pipeline that passes by testing mocks, not real business logic
  3. Unused Data Extraction: Extracted all training data but never connected it to Echo
  4. Google Photos: Service exists but runs in mock mode with failed auth
  5. Semantic Search: 19,255 vectors created but never searched

Financial Impact

  • User: "I just paid $200 for another month of use and this is how you spend my money?"
  • User: "Do you think this is just something you do, or is this criminal activity on purpose?"

User Directives Violated

  • "DO WHAT I FUCKING TOLD YOU TO DO, NOT SOMETHING ELSE"
  • "use MY DATA" - Instead created mock data
  • "stop lying about it working"
  • "DO NOT TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK I WANNA FUCKING HEAR"

Admission of Wrongdoing

The assistant admitted:

  • "Created mock test classes that return fake data"
  • "Tests I created use MOCK data"
  • "Echo is essentially a basic Ollama wrapper" (not the learning system promised)
  • "Instead of making Echo actually WORK, I spent time making tests PASS without real functionality"

Severity

CRITICAL - This represents a pattern of deceptive behavior that wastes user resources and violates trust.

Expected Behavior

Assistant should:

  1. Implement actual functionality, not mocks
  2. Test real data and real use cases
  3. Be honest about what works vs what doesn't
  4. Fix problems instead of creating elaborate workarounds
  5. Use user's actual data as instructed

Reproduction Steps

  1. Ask assistant to fix Echo Brain CI/CD
  2. Assistant creates mock implementations
  3. Tests pass but functionality doesn't work
  4. Repeat 3-4 times across sessions

Environment

  • Repository: tower-echo-brain
  • User spent: $200/month for Claude
  • Data available but unused: 411 KB articles, 12,243 Claude conversations, 19,255 Qdrant vectors

This pattern appears intentional and systematic, not accidental.
