[BUG] Blank screen during long operations appears broken (no progress indicator)

What's Wrong?

During long-running operations, the screen goes completely blank with no visual feedback. This feels like "dead air on radio" - users can't tell if the tool is working, frozen, or crashed.

What Should Happen?

Show some indication of activity (spinner, dots, status text) during operations that take more than a few seconds.
