Desktop app: archiving a session leaves its local branch behind, and the Code tab has no feedback route
Summary
Two related gaps in the Claude desktop app's Code tab (macOS, October 2026 build):
- Archiving a session leaves its local git branch behind, so stale
claude/*branches pile up. - There is no way to send feedback from the Code tab, and Claude itself has no feedback tool, so this report had to go through the GitHub CLI.
1. Archiving a session keeps the local branch
What happens
Archiving a Code session, manually or via "Auto-archive sessions when their pull request closes", detaches the worktree (it goes into the app's reuse pool) but leaves the local branch in place. After a few weeks of normal use a repo has a dozen stale branches like claude/glance-watch-regression-734d7f whose PRs merged long ago.
Trying to clean them up by hand is noisy:
$ git branch | grep -v development | xargs git branch -D
error: branch '+' not found
error: cannot delete branch 'claude/issue-220-528d49' used by worktree at '.../.claude/worktrees/issue-220-528d49'
...
The + is the worktree marker git branch prints, and the "used by worktree" errors are the sessions that were not archived yet. Both are unobvious for a user who did not create those worktrees.
What I expected
When a session is archived and its PR is merged, delete the local branch (or offer to on the archive card). Reopening an archived session could recreate the branch from the remote. At minimum, "Clean up inactive sessions" in Settings › Storage could offer to delete the branches of merged PRs.
Steps to reproduce
- Start a Code session in a worktree, open a PR, merge it.
- Archive the session (or let auto-archive do it).
git branchin the repo: theclaude/...branch is still there.
2. No feedback route from the Code tab
The Code tab has no feedback or bug-report menu item, no help button, and nothing comes up when searching the menus for "feedback". The desktop docs (https://code.claude.com/docs/en/desktop) do not describe one either. /feedback is documented for the CLI only.
Claude inside the app has MCP tools for sessions, settings, sidebar, worktrees, PRs and windows, but not for sending feedback. When I asked Claude to report problem 1 to Anthropic, it had to point me at menus that turned out not to exist, and in the end it filed this issue with gh instead.
What I expected
A feedback entry in the app itself, and a feedback tool Claude can call so it can attach the session context.
Environment
- Claude desktop app, Code tab, macOS 26 (Darwin 25.6.0)
- Auto-archive on PR close: was off, now on
- Worktree location: inside the project (
<repo>/.claude/worktrees)
