Problem Statement

Since the latest desktop app update, Claude ends most turns with a next-step box: a short question plus one or two buttons. I'd like to be able to turn the question/buttons off.

Problems:

  • Most real decisions in my work (sysadmin tickets, code, design) have more than two sensible answers. Squeezing them into 1-2 buttons frames the choice too narrowly.
  • The context and reasoning sit inside the button's hidden message, so I can't see what I'm agreeing to until I click.
  • It pushes toward clicking the suggested answer instead of discussing it. That's the opposite of what I want from a working session.
  • It isn't the AskUserQuestion tool, so disabling that didn't help, and there's no setting in Settings → Claude Code to turn it off.

Proposed Solution

A setting to turn off the question and buttons (keeping the recap is fine), or make that the default, with Claude asking questions in normal text.
