Desktop app (Windows): repeated 'API Error: Connection dropped (ECONNRESET)' across multiple sessions, incl. short ones

Summary

Sessions in the Claude desktop app's Code tab repeatedly end with
API Error: Connection dropped (ECONNRESET). The user's internet connection is otherwise working.
It happened in several separate sessions today, including a short, fresh one, so it is not only
very long sessions. Retrying ("Try again") often fails again or gets interrupted.

Environment

• Claude desktop app (Windows MSIX package Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc), Code tab, Windows 10 Home 10.0.19045
• Claude Code version recorded in the session transcript: 2.1.295
• Model: claude-sonnet-5-5, permission mode: auto, local sessions (not cloud)
• Remote Control was ON for the sessions

Evidence (from local session transcripts, ~/.claude/projects/.../*.jsonl)

7 API-error messages containing ECONNRESET in 5 different sessions today:

Three further sessions titled "ECONNRESET logs and subscription confirmation" (22:34, 22:38, 22:44)
all ended with error_during_execution after the user interrupted ("Request interrupted by user").

Possible pattern (observed once, not proven)

In one session (a703e961) the error appeared immediately after the assistant Read two very large
screenshot files (original size 9600x2160 each, displayed downscaled to 2000x450). In another
(1c23205f) the session was interrupted right after a Read of an image (2400x540). I have NOT
checked whether the other 5 failures also followed image reads, so this may be coincidence.

Expected vs. actual

• Expected: the API request completes (or is retried automatically).
• Actual: the turn aborts with ECONNRESET; the user has to retry manually, and the retry sometimes fails too.

Not available

• The app logs in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Claude_pzs8sxrjxfjjc\LocalCache\Roaming\Claude\logs\ were last

written 2026-08-21, so they hold nothing for these failures.
