Problem Statement

In Claude Code on the web and in the app, let me edit repository files myself in a built-in editor, next to the chat, instead of only through Claude. I don't want to have to use vs code and use claude there. I would rather the ability to edit code within claude code.

Proposed Solution

Write permissions within files on claude desktop

Alternative Solutions

Using vs code, terminal. these work, just prefer the proposed solution

Priority

Low - Nice to have

Feature Category

Developer tools/SDK

Use Case Example

Example Scenario:

  1. Claude code writes code in environment
  2. user clicks files
  3. user opens file.py in claude desktop (claude code)
  4. user clicks within the file.py file
  5. users is prompted warning message about editing file manually
  6. user edits files
  7. user clicks save (or autosaves)
  8. system triggers that change was made on line range(x, y)
  9. model analyzes tokens on line to see what user changed in memory
  10. continue
