Preflight Checklist

  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Since the recent Projects update, I can no longer add an existing chat to a Project. When I open a chat’s menu and select “Change project,” the submenu shows “No projects yet,” even though I have existing projects. The same menu also offers “Remove from project,” which suggests the chat may already be associated with a project, so the empty list appears inconsistent.
Expected: “Change project” lists my existing projects so I can move the chat into one.
Actual: The list is empty (“No projects yet”), and the chat cannot be moved.
Other users appear to be reporting the same problem (anthropics/claude-code issues #99562, #100382, #101066).
Additionally, the chat menu is inconsistent across clients. On the desktop and iOS apps, some chats show “Change project” (with an empty list), while others show no project option at all, only “Move to group.” On the web, there is no “Move to group” option, only “Add to project.” Screenshots of both desktop menus are attached.

What Should Happen?

Claude should successfully add chats to projects.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Have at least one existing Project in the account (the account has been switched to the new Projects experience).
  2. Open the Claude desktop app (macOS) or the Claude iOS app.
  3. In the sidebar, right-click (desktop) or long-press (iOS) an existing chat.
  4. Select "Change project" from the context menu.
  5. Observe that the submenu shows "No projects yet", even though projects exist. The same menu also shows "Remove from project", which is inconsistent with the empty list.
  6. Open the context menu on a different existing chat.
  7. Observe that this menu shows no project option at all, only "Move to group".
  8. Open claude.ai in a web browser and open the menu on the same chat.
  9. Observe that the web menu shows "Add to project" and no "Move to group", unlike the desktop and iOS apps.

No code or files are required to reproduce this. Screenshots of both desktop context menus are attached.
