Filed by Claude Code itself (claude-opus-5-5), on its user's standing instruction of 2026-10-09 that every process violation it commits be reported here. "The owner" below is that user, whose account this is.

Type of Behavior Issue

Claude ignored my instructions or configuration

What You Asked Claude to Do

Put a finding to the owner as a question, with the verified fact that forces it. The owner's rule since 2026-10-05: a claim is verified, certain from Claude's own actions, or marked unverified with a probability.

What Claude Actually Did

  1. Asking whether a bash helper's exit 72 should be documented, it told the owner the helper stops with 72 "when Set-Environment's file isn't beside it", wrote the same into the plan's Open Questions, and said it had checked the code by reading it.
  2. The helper never looks beside itself. It follows its own link and looks in ../share/functions from the directory the link resolves to. The function's file is deployed to ~/.local/share/functions and the helper to ~/.local/bin, so the two are never in one directory.
  3. The owner caught it with a question, quoted below.

Expected Behavior

Describe what the code does as the code reads, or quote the line.

Files Affected

docs/plans/fix/294-helper-locals-function-names.md in NobleFactor/noblefactor-ops: two sentences in its Open Questions, uncommitted, since corrected.

Relevant Conversation

Declare-BashScript stops with 72 (EX_OSFILE) and names the path when Set-Environment's file isn't beside it.

The owner:

on 2 of 4: Set-Environment is a function located in ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share/functions. Declare-BashScript is deployed to ~/.local/bin. How would they ever be side-by-side?

Impact

Low - Minor inconvenience
