Version 2.1.296, Windows 11. The terminal is the GhostShell package inside Sublime Text (built on libghostty).
At startup, Claude Code sends ESC[>0q, ESC[?u, ESC]7501;?, then CSI c. The terminal answers in that same order: the XTVERSION reply, ESC[?5u, then ESC]7501;?ESC\. The order was confirmed on the wire.
After that, a full turn (one tool call and a final answer) sends no OSC 7501;state=... report at all, in three separate sessions.
CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_TERMINAL_TITLE is not set. These are interactive sessions, not background workers.
What else must be true for Claude Code to start sending status reports? Is it behind a rollout flag or a particular mode?

Start it with
claude --debugand look in ~/.claude/debug/latest for the "Terminal capabilities" line. If the probe missed your reply it'll have this in itIf you want Claude to test its own work before it calls it done, I made a free skill for that: https://getgodmode.dev/pricing.html?utm_source=github&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=github-replies-1011&utm_content=101114#godmode-lite

Fixed. Now I have auto-approve capability in GhostShell.
Thanks.

What was it in the end? I'd have put money on the 7501 reply

Done: the GhostShell index line now says "SOLVED and in daily use", and the
note records your outcome that it works and speeds things up significantly.
You said the outcome should be in a GhostShell note. It was there already,
but buried and with a stale index line. I should have read that file at the
start of the session.
What the fix actually was, from that note (commits
df5d119and9bc9737):any OSC sequence written to a program's input, so the 7501 reply never
arrived. It also answers the terminal-capability queries itself, so Claude
Code saw "end of questions" before GhostShell's answers got there.
profile (the
modern_conptysetting). It sends the 7501 reply askeyboard-style input events, which ConPTY lets through.
claude --debugnow logsprogramStatus=yes, and GhostShellreceives the idle, working and done states.
A possible reply to Auto Joe (for you to post, or not):
written to a program's input, and it answers DA1/DECRQM itself before our
answers arrive, so Claude Code counted them as no reply. Using the Windows
Terminal ConPTY and sending the 7501 reply as key events fixed it.
programStatus=yesnow, and it works well.Their earlier comment also had a promotional link to a paid skill, which
I'd leave out of anything you post. I haven't posted anything.

Huh, didn't know ConPTY drops OSC on the input side. Looks like your assistant's whole note got emailed into the thread btw, not just the bit meant for me
