[BUG] Desktop app (Code tab): search mixes Archive and Delete actions into results, one click archived my session
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
Claude Code desktop app, Code tab. The search window ("All" tab) puts actions on the currently open session (Archive, Delete, Rename, Pin, Fork, Move to group) in the same list as the search results, whenever the search text matches that session's title.
I typed "ana" to find a different session. The list showed one real result, then six actions on the session I already had open. I archived that session by mistake. Delete was two rows below the row I clicked.
Search should never change or delete anything. People type a word and click the first plausible row; right now that can archive or delete a session.
- The action rows look the same as results: same row style and size, with the search text in bold inside the session title. Only a small icon sets them apart.
- The match is on the session title, not the action name. Anyone who starts chat titles with a tag (
ANA,BUG,REV…) gets Archive and Delete for the open session on almost every search. - The list changes as you type, so the row under the cursor or highlight can change between seeing it and clicking it.
- Archive ran as soon as I clicked it.
- Delete is permanent and sits in the same list.
What Should Happen?
- Search shows only things to open: sessions, artifacts, projects. Nothing in the results changes or removes data.
- If commands belong in this window at all, they:
- match only their own names (typing "archive"), not the open session's title
- sit under a labeled "Commands" heading below the results, or behind a prefix like VS Code's
> - Delete is never offered from search, or at least asks for confirmation first.
- Archive shows an Undo notice.
Session actions already live in the session's menu and have their own shortcuts (⌥⌘R, ⌥⌘P, ⌥⌘O), so removing them from search loses nothing.
Error Messages/Logs
None. This is a UX problem, not an error.
Steps to Reproduce
- In the Claude desktop app, open a Code session whose title contains a word, e.g.
ANA FE-1ET/FE-1ES Error: FIRESTORE ... - Open search.
- Type a word from that title, e.g.
ana. - Look at the "All" tab: Archive, Delete, Rename, Pin, Fork and Move to group for the open session appear mixed in with the search results.

Additional Information
- Environment: Claude desktop app 2.31226.0, Code tab, macOS 27.0.1
- Related: #87477 asked for a confirmation before archiving from the sidebar's right-click menu (closed by a bot as not about Claude Code). This is a second, easier way to archive by accident: from search.
