Description
In the Claude Code VSCode extension, when opening the session list (e.g. after creating a new session), the only actions available on a session are Archive / Unarchive. There is no option to permanently delete a session.
Steps to reproduce
- Open the Claude Code VSCode extension.
- Create a new session.
- Try to remove an old/unwanted session from the list.
- Only "Archive" / "Unarchive" actions are available — no "Delete".
Expected behavior
Users should be able to permanently delete a session from the list (not just archive it), similar to how one might delete a conversation in other chat UIs.
Actual behavior
Archiving only hides the session from the default view; there's no way to remove it entirely through the UI.
Environment
- Claude Code VSCode extension
- macOS (Darwin 25.6.0)

Yeah, this annoys the f... out of me. I like the archive functionality but deleting a session should still be an option.
+1 — please bring back Delete alongside Archive.
For me the key issue is data removal, not list management: archiving only hides the session in the UI, while the full transcript (
.jsonlunder~/.claude/projects/...) stays on disk indefinitely. For conversations that touched sensitive content, "hide" isn't a substitute for "delete" — today the only way to actually remove the data is manually deleting files while the session is closed.Archive is a great addition; it just shouldn't come at the cost of the only destructive option.
Please add this. It's ridiculous.
Super annoying change! I can't understand why this change was made.
