Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and found no duplicate (closest: #76411, a custom statusLine not rendering in fullscreen, fixed Aug 2026; #51497 and #74321, fullscreen clipping bottom rows).
  • [x] This is a single bug report.

What's Wrong?

With the fullscreen renderer active ("tui": "fullscreen" in ~/.claude/settings.json, or /tui fullscreen), the Remote Control footer badge (/rc active / "Remote Control active", normally at the right end of the footer row beside the mode hint) never appears after turning Remote Control on with /remote-control <name> in the session. Remote Control itself is connected: the session URL is posted and the session is reachable from claude.ai. Switching to the classic renderer with /tui default in the same session makes the badge appear immediately, with no other change.

Ruled out:

  • Terminal width: reproduced at 101 and 113 columns with the footer's right side empty.
  • Multiplexer: reproduced inside a Herdr pane; the pane was the only pane in its tab, so Claude Code had the full tab width.
  • Custom statusLine command: configured, but the badge belongs to the built-in footer row, which renders in both modes (model, directory, context bar and the auto mode on hint are all present in fullscreen).
  • remoteControlAtStartup: unset. Remote Control was enabled by hand in the session, which is the path #56175 says does show the badge.

What Should Happen?

The /rc active badge should render in the footer in fullscreen mode exactly as it does in the classic renderer, since the Remote Control docs describe it as part of the prompt footer with no renderer caveat (hidden only when the terminal is too narrow).

Error Messages/Logs

None. No error, notification or log line; the badge is simply absent.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In ~/.claude/settings.json set "tui": "fullscreen" (or run /tui fullscreen), start claude in a terminal at least 110 columns wide.
  2. Run /remote-control test and wait for the session URL to be posted.
  3. Look at the footer row under the prompt: no Remote Control badge at the right.
  4. Run /tui default. The session relaunches in the classic renderer and the badge is now shown at the right of the footer.
  5. Run /tui fullscreen again: the badge disappears again.

Claude Model

Fable 5.1 (not model-related).

Is this a regression?

Unknown. The user noticed the badge missing after moving to a setup that enabled fullscreen rendering; the badge was visible in earlier classic-renderer sessions.

Last Working Version

Unknown (classic renderer shows it on 2.1.296 today).

Claude Code Version

2.1.296

Platform

macOS (Apple Silicon)

Operating System

macOS 26.6.2 (build 25G83)

Terminal/Shell

Ghostty 1.3.1, zsh. Also reproduced inside a Herdr 0.9.3 pane within Ghostty (same result as plain Ghostty, i.e. the multiplexer is not the cause).
