Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests. #28187 asked for custom plugin icons in marketplaces, but it was auto-closed as stale ("not planned") by the bot, with no maintainer response. This request is specifically about Cowork / claude.ai, where the docs already define the field.
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

Plugins distributed to an organization through Organization settings > Plugins & skills > Sync from GitHub all show the same generic placeholder icon on the Cowork / claude.ai plugin page, so internal plugins are hard to tell apart.

plugin.json already has an icon field, but the manifest reference says it is only for Anthropic's directory: "Icon for the plugin's listing in Anthropic's directory. Claude Code doesn't read it." An organization's own private marketplace therefore has no documented way to set an icon.

The same happens with author: the plugin page shows by <owner>/<repo> (the marketplace repository) instead of author.name, even when author is set in both plugin.json and the marketplace entry.

Proposed Solution

For plugins that come from an organization marketplace (synced repo or uploaded zip), read the existing icon field from plugin.json (an image path inside the plugin, e.g. ./logo.png) and show it on the plugin card and detail page in Cowork / claude.ai, with the same format rules the directory already uses.

Optionally, show author.name (and author.email as a contact link) in the byline instead of the repository slug, or next to it.

Alternative Solutions

  • An icon upload in Organization settings > Plugins & skills on the plugin's page.
  • The current workaround is to put the owner's contact in description, which is the only field the page renders. There is no workaround for the icon.

Medium - Would be very helpful

Use Case Example

An organization syncs an internal marketplace with several plugins, one per team. Members browse Customize > Plugins in Cowork. With per-plugin icons and an owner shown in the byline, they can recognize each plugin and know whom to contact, without opening every plugin's description.

Additional Context

  • Verified with a plugin whose .claude-plugin/plugin.json sets "icon": "./logo.png" (a 512×512 PNG at the plugin root) and author with name, email and url. claude plugin validate . --strict passes on Claude Code 2.1.295.
  • After the new version synced, the Cowork plugin page showed the new version number and the updated description, but still the placeholder icon and by <owner>/<repo>.
  • Docs checked: plugins-reference (directory listing fields), claude.com/docs/plugins/org-sync and claude.com/docs/plugins/admin. None mentions an icon or author display for organization plugins.
