Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

In the Claude Desktop App, I frequently accidentally send my prompt early when I'm trying to do a newline in a prompt. This happens to me multiple times a day and is very frustrating. Maybe I'm unique, but I rarely send a prompt without newlines in it. I press enter much more often to create a newline than to send a prompt.

Proposed Solution

In Codex there is a setting that allows you to choose the key or key combination used to send a prompt. It defaults to Enter. I would love this option that would let me choose Shift+Enter or Ctrl+Enter as well.

Alternative Solutions

In the terminal and VSCode extension, I have found ways to hack it to already have this behavior. It's not perfect and it's not easy to set up though. On the Claude Desktop app, I have not found any way to do this. I prefer the Desktop app over the other methods, but I have used the VSCode extension instead to this point partly because of this.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Feature Category

Configuration and settings

Use Case Example

Every day constantly, every time I type a prompt.

Additional Context

I'm not sure if I should have checked the "no other request" checkbox since there are similar requests in the past but all of them say they were closed for being inactive and specifically direct us to open a new ticket. This seems like a really valuable and obvious change, so I'm trying again.
