Environment: Claude Code VS Code extension 2.1.288 · VS Code 1.137.0 · Windows 10 22H2 (build 19045) · Max subscription
What happened (2026-10-03)
- Dictation stopped working in every VS Code window with:
Dictation error: No OAuth token available for speech-to-text. - Because dictation was broken, I typed a long message by hand.
- When I pressed Send, the extension asked me to validate my subscription and log in again. It opened the browser and the login worked, but the message I had typed was gone.
- Headless
claude -psessions running on the same machine also seem to have stopped at the same time.
Expected
- When re-authentication is needed, keep the unsent message, and send it after login or at least leave it in the prompt box.
- Warn before the session expires. The credentials file already has
refreshTokenExpiresAt, so the client knows in advance. - The dictation error should say "please log in again" and offer a button to do it, instead of a token message the user cannot act on.
