[BUG] Regression of #94259: Desktop (Windows) code block Run opens a new terminal tab instead of the existing one
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
#94259 was closed as fixed on 2026-09-15, but the bug is back. In the Claude desktop app on Windows (Code tab), pressing Run on a code block opens a NEW terminal tab and runs the command in local PowerShell, instead of sending it to the session's existing terminal where an interactive ssh session is open.
Reproduced on two different machines with the same app build, so it is not machine-specific:
- Machine 1: Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26300, Claude desktop (MSIX) 2.19675.0.0, Claude Code 2.1.286
- Machine 2: Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 10.0.19044, Claude desktop (MSIX) 2.19675.0.0, set up from scratch for this test (no custom terminal settings)
Impact: commands meant for a remote server cannot be run with one click; users have to copy and paste them into the ssh terminal by hand.
What Should Happen?
The command is written into the existing terminal (Terminal 1, the ssh session), as it did after the #94259 fix.
Error Messages/Logs
Steps to Reproduce
- Open a Code session in the Claude desktop app and open its terminal panel (Terminal 1).
- In Terminal 1, run
ssh <host>(interactive session). - In the chat, press Run on any code block.
- A new tab (Terminal 2) opens and the command runs in local PowerShell instead of Terminal 1.
