Desktop: list_sessions with linked: true does not return sessions started from a spawn_task chip, though get_session reports them as children
Where: Claude desktop app on macOS, Code tab. The sessions run on a Linux host over SSH, and get_session reports "isRemote": true for all of them.
What happened
One remote Code-tab session created several background-task chips with mcp__ccd_session__spawn_task, and the user clicked each one to start it. Each new session also ran on the Linux host. From the first session:
mcp__ccd_session_mgmt__get_sessionon any of the started sessions returns"parentSessionId": "<first session's id>"and"detached": false.mcp__ccd_session_mgmt__list_sessionswith{"linked": true}returns "No other sessions found." At that point eight such sessions existed, all still unarchived.
Expected
The tool describes linked: true as listing "this session's linked family: the session that started it, the sessions it or they started". Sessions whose parentSessionId is this session should appear there.
Why it matters
A session that coordinates chip-started sessions has no other way to find one whose id it doesn't already know. In our case, the only way to find one of them was to call list_sessions without the filter and pick it out by title, among about 30 sessions from two machines.
A related point in the same description
It says linked sessions are ones "Claude started from another with start_session", but no start_session tool is available in the session. Either the description is stale, or the tool is missing from this setup.
Reproduction
- In a remote Code-tab session, call
spawn_taskwith any prompt, then click the chip to start it. - In the first session, call
get_sessionon the new session's id and noteparentSessionId. - In the first session, call
list_sessionswith{"linked": true}.
Seen once, in this remote setup. I haven't checked whether a local session on macOS behaves the same way.
