What I'm trying to do

Organize sessions in agent view (claude agents) into groups of my own — the terminal equivalent of the "Archived" group the Claude app has — and move a session from one group to another with a key.

What I found

Agent view in 2.1.288 appears to already contain the whole custom-group system, switched off. Reading the installed binary (~/.nvm/versions/node/v24.11.1/lib/node_modules/@anthropic-ai/claude-code/bin/claude.exe), the Agents keybinding context declares seven actions:

| Action | Default |
| --- | --- |
| agents:switchView | Ctrl+S |
| agents:togglePin | Ctrl+T |
| agents:find | Ctrl+F |
| agents:rename | Ctrl+R |
| agents:previousGroup | Ctrl+Up, Meta+Up |
| agents:nextGroup | Ctrl+Down, Meta+Down |
| agents:setGroup | (none) |

agents:setGroup opens a group picker for the focused session — assign to a group, create one by typing a name, or clear it — and with groups active, agents:switchView cycles state → directory → group rather than state → directory. All seven pass keybindings.json schema validation, so the config file accepts a binding for agents:setGroup without complaint.

But the feature is inert. Verified on Linux, 2.1.288:

{ "context": "Agents", "bindings": { "ctrl+alt+g": "agents:setGroup" } }
  • Pressing Ctrl+Alt+G on a focused session row does nothing — no picker, no error line.
  • The ? shortcuts overlay shows no "to group" hint.
  • Three presses of Ctrl+S cycle only state and directory; the group mode never appears.

I could not find any environment variable, settings key, or flag name in the bundle that enables it.

Asks

1. Enable custom session groups in agent view, or document what enables them. A user who finds agents:setGroup in the keybindings schema can bind it and get silence, with nothing to tell them why.

2. Add an action that moves the focused session one group up or down. agents:setGroup opens a picker, which suits assigning a group the first time. Shuffling a session between two existing groups wants a keystroke, the way Shift+Up / Shift+Down reorder within a group. Please make it rebindable: I'm on Linux under i3, where plain and Alt-modified arrows are taken by the window manager, so a fixed binding would be unreachable for me.

3. Document the five undocumented Agents actions. agents:find, agents:rename, agents:nextGroup, agents:previousGroup and agents:setGroup all ship and all validate in keybindings.json, but https://code.claude.com/docs/en/keybindings#agents-actions lists only agents:switchView and agents:togglePin.

One more note

agents:switchView's directory grouping groups by repository root, not by the directory a session was dispatched from. All my work lives in subfolders of one repo, so every session collapses into a single group and directory grouping can't stand in for groups of my own.

Environment

  • Claude Code 2.1.288, installed via npm (Node 24.11.1)
  • Linux (aarch64), i3, terminal 200 columns
