[BUG] Linux/GNOME Wayland: Super+Arrow tiling (Tiling Assistant) snaps back on Claude Desktop (Linux beta) window; fixed by --ozone-platform=x11
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
This concerns the Claude Desktop app for Linux (official apt package), not the Claude Code CLI.
Pressing Super+Left (or Super+Right) on the Claude Desktop window moves it to that half of the screen for a moment, then it immediately returns to its original position and size. Tiling only works if I first manually shrink the window and then drag it against the screen edge.
Other windows (e.g. a fresh gnome-terminal) tile correctly with the same shortcuts. Tiling Assistant's shortcuts are correctly configured and Mutter's native tiling shortcuts are cleared, so this is not a shortcut conflict. Disabling GNOME animations makes no difference.
What Should Happen?
The window stays tiled to the left/right half of the screen, like other windows.
Error Messages/Logs
Output of `journalctl -f -o cat /usr/bin/gnome-shell` while trying to tile the window:
Error in size change accounting.
Old animationInfo removed from actor [... MetaWindowActorWayland]
(the first line repeats continuously)
Steps to Reproduce
- Use Ubuntu 26.04 with a GNOME Wayland session and the Tiling Assistant extension enabled (tiling-assistant@ubuntu.com).
- Launch Claude Desktop with no extra flags (claude-desktop 2.9939.4, installed from the official apt repository).
- With the window at its normal size, press Super+Left.
- The window briefly tiles to the left, then snaps back to its previous position and size.
Workaround: launching /usr/lib/claude-desktop/claude-desktop --ozone-platform=x11 (XWayland) fixes the problem completely.
Suggestion: the native Wayland window seems to reject or mishandle the size change requested by the compositor/extension. Defaulting to XWayland, or fixing the resize handling under native Wayland, would avoid this.
