Preflight Checklist

  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

The top-right corner above the prompt input shows the current effort level. I already show effort in my custom statusLine (it's in the status line JSON as .effort.level), so I see the same value twice. No setting hides it, and plugins can't reach that spot, since there's no ui.render component for it.

The token counter in the same spot was handled in #21867: it only shows with verbose on. Effort has no equivalent switch.

Proposed Solution

Either of these:

  • An env var or setting following the existing CLAUDE_CODE_HIDE_* pattern, e.g. CLAUDE_CODE_HIDE_EFFORT_INDICATOR=1, or hide it automatically when a custom statusLine is configured.
  • A ui.render component for that corner (like SessionMode for the footer labels), so a plugin can filter out what it doesn't want.

Alternative Solutions

Showing effort in the status line works, but it doesn't remove the built-in indicator. #33667 asked for the same thing in the VS Code extension and was closed as not planned; this request is for the terminal app.

Priority

Low - Nice to have

Feature Category

Interactive mode (TUI)

Use Case Example

  1. My status line shows Opus 5.5 · medium.
  2. The corner above the prompt also shows the effort level.
  3. With this setting, effort would show only in my status line.

Additional Context

Claude Code v2.1.288, macOS.
