[FEATURE] Setting to disable the pasted-content protection (<pasted_content> wrapping)

Problem

Text pasted into the prompt gets wrapped in <pasted_content> tags, and the model is told the paste may contain instructions the user did not write. The result is that the model hesitates or asks for confirmation on things I pasted on purpose. I paste my own instructions, notes and dictated text all the time, so this gets in the way.

Related bug: #96978 (a message that is only a paste is treated as untrusted).

Request

A user-level opt-out, for example a settings.json key or an env var, that turns the wrapping off so pasted text is treated the same as typed text. Default can stay as it is.

I checked the settings reference, the env var list and the changelog and could not find any existing option.

Environment

  • Claude Code: 2.1.287 (Claude Code)
  • macOS (Darwin 25.6.0), terminal CLI
