[Bug] Randomize seed not updating on first run after workflow reload

Read 2 files, ran 5 shell commands The seeds in the workflow are set to "randomize", but every run since 19:35 used the same seed. I'm checking which screen sent those runs and why the seed didn't change. Called MCP, ran 1 shell command Both runs in your tab used the same seed (67460242742333), confirming "randomize" isn't updating the seed after Run. I'll test this in my own tab without triggering an actual picture job. Pixels of img_01609 = 01613 = 01617 = 0162 1 exactly (file checksums differ only because each PNG carries its own saved workflow text). 01605 (seed 9942037589 0181) differs. - Cause (proven from the timeline): every seed is set to "randomize" with ComfyUI's control mode "after" - a ne w number is picked AFTER each run. The saved workflow file holds 67460242742333. Each of those runs was the FIRST r un after the workflow was freshly opened (page reloads at about 19:50 by Claude and 20:09:05 by the user; 19:38 was a fresh tab), so each one used the saved number. After the 20:10 run the tab now shows new seeds (KSampler 5262915 54669428, PM 566/1121/1298/193/1825), so the next Run in that tab would differ. FaceDetailer seed 1736114183 is set to "fixed". - Nothing changed. Question asked about what to do. You're right: the pictures from your last runs are exactly the same, pixel for pixel. I compared the actual files, and img_01609, img_01613, img_01617 and img_01621 are identical. Nothing is broken; it's a timing quirk in how ComfyUI picks new random numbers. What a seed is. Every picture starts from a random number called the seed. It's the starting point for the random noise the picture is painted out of, like shuffling a deck of cards before dealing. Same seed and same settings give the exact same picture. A new seed gives a new picture. Portrait Master (STEP 4) has its own seeds too, for its random picks. Why your runs repeated. Your seeds are set to "randomize", but ComfyUI picks the new number after each run, not before. The workflow file has one seed saved in it, 67460242742333. Each time the workflow is freshly opened, the first run uses that saved number, and only then does ComfyUI roll a new one. Every one of these runs was the first run after a fresh open: - 19:38: from a brand-new tab - 20:01: after I reloaded the page around 19:50 for the picture viewer - 20:10: after your reload at 20:09 So all three used 67460242742333, and the Portrait Master seeds repeated the same way. Today had a lot of reloads because of all the code changes, which is why it kept happening. Right now your tab already shows new seeds, rolled after the 20:10 run. If you press Run again without reloading, you'll get new pictures. I wrote this up in logs/REPO_comfyUI_Monitor_LOG.md. Nothing has been changed. --- OPEN QUESTIONS ASKING NOW: How should new seeds be picked from now on? 1. Pick the new seed before each run. This is a ComfyUI setting called "Widget control mode", changed from "after" to "before". Even the first run after opening the workflow gets a fresh seed, so this repeat can't happen again. The seed shown on screen afterwards is the one the last picture actually used, which helps when you want to make a picture again.
