[BUG] CLI text renders as low-contrast dark blue/near-black on dark terminal backgrounds
What's Wrong?
In the Claude Code CLI, some rendered text uses a very dark blue / near-black foreground color against a black (or very dark) terminal background. The contrast is so low that the text is effectively unreadable — it blends into the background rather than standing out as normal terminal output.
This isn't a one-off glitch from a single update; it has persisted across multiple versions over an extended period of regular daily use.
What Should Happen?
All CLI text should keep sufficient contrast against dark/black terminal backgrounds — ideally by drawing from the terminal's theme-aware default foreground instead of a hardcoded dark/near-black color, consistent with standard (WCAG-style) minimum contrast guidance.
Error Messages/Logs
None — this is a visual/rendering issue, not an error.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open Claude Code CLI in a terminal with a black/very dark background (in this case PowerShell on Windows 11, with Git Bash also available).
- Use Claude Code normally for a session (no special flags or config needed).
- Observe that some text is rendered in a dark blue/near-black shade that is very hard to distinguish from the black background — it's readable only by highlighting/selecting it, or not at all depending on the terminal.
Note: the exact UI element affected has varied across versions/updates, which suggests this is a recurring category of bug (hardcoded dark foreground colors not adapting to the terminal's actual background) rather than a single isolated regression. A closed report with a similar root cause and reproductions across macOS/Windows/Linux exists at anthropics/claude-code#49056 (closed as "not planned" without an apparent fix), which may be useful context.
