Environment
- Claude desktop for Windows 11, package version 2.9939.2.0 (Code tab), bundled Claude Code 2.1.281
- Permission mode: auto
What happened
Until about 2026-09-25, a session could be archived from the UI: the ⋮ menu of a session in the sidebar had an Archive entry (keyboard letter A). The same action was available from the row menu of a scheduled-task (routine) run.
Since a recent update, Archive is gone from both menus.
Why this hurts
The only remaining way to archive is to type a message asking the session to archive itself (archive_session, session_id: "self"), and that call asks for permission every single time.
So archiving, a routine and reversible action (unarchive_session exists), now takes a message, a wait, and a permission approval, for every session.
Expected
- Bring back Archive in the session ⋮ menu and in the routine run row menu (preferred), and
- In the meantime, make sure
archive_sessioncan be pre-approved throughpermissions.allow.
