[BUG] VS Code /model fails with EPERM on Windows: Hebrew username is reversed in config path
Summary
On Windows with a Hebrew (RTL) username, /model in the VS Code extension fails to persist the model choice because the username is string-reversed when the config path is built.
Environment
- Claude Code VS Code extension 2.1.282 (win32-x64)
- Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19045
- Windows username:
משתמש(Hebrew, profile folderC:\Users\משתמש)
Steps to reproduce
- Log in to Windows with a Hebrew username.
- Open the Claude Code panel in VS Code.
- Run
/model opus(or pick any model).
Actual
Failed to set model: EPERM mkdir 'C:\Users\שמתשמ'
שמתשמ is משתמש with the character order reversed. The extension tries to create a new folder directly under C:\Users, which needs admin rights, so it fails. The model switch still applies in the current session; only the saved preference fails.
Expected
The preference is written under the real profile folder C:\Users\משתמש\.claude.
Workaround
Point the config dir at an ASCII path through a junction:
mklink /J C:\Users\Public\claude-home C:\Users\משתמש\.claude
setx CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR C:\Users\Public\claude-home
After restarting VS Code, /model works.
Likely cause
Some code path applies a bidi/visual reordering (or reverses RTL runs) to the home directory string before using it as a filesystem path. Paths should be used as logical-order strings only.
