Problem Statement
Summary
In the Claude desktop app (Code tab), long pasted text is always inserted inline in the prompt box. I'd like long pastes to collapse into a compact chip, similar to how Cursor shows a Clipboard (688 lines) chip (screenshot attached), so the prompt stays readable.
Use case
I work on frontend tasks and often paste several long CSS/JSON exports from Figma in a single prompt (desktop CSS, mobile CSS, component properties…), each preceded by a short label. Inline, the prompt becomes very long and it's hard to follow its structure while I'm writing it.
Current behavior
- Long pastes are always inserted inline. I couldn't find any setting for this in the app preferences or in settings.json.
- The workaround (saving each paste to a file and attaching it) works, but it's slow for something I do many times a day.

Environment
- Claude desktop app (Code tab), macOS
- App version: <!-- complete -->

Proposed Solution
- Collapse pastes above a certain size into a chip that can be previewed or expanded before sending.
- Make the threshold configurable (lines or characters), or add a shortcut to "paste as attachment" on demand.
- Let the user rename a chip (e.g.
error-desktop.css) or show its first line as a preview, so several pastes in the same prompt are easy to tell apart.
