Claude in Chrome: extension never connects on Linux; /chrome reconnect flashes a tab and closes it
- Claude Code 2.1.281 (npm/nvm install), extension 1.0.94, Google Chrome on Linux (AWS WorkSpace). Chrome and Claude Code run on the same machine.
- The same claude.ai account is signed in to both the CLI and the extension.
- /chrome → reconnect opens a tab in Chrome that closes immediately. Afterwards /chrome reports: Couldn't list connected browsers: JSON Parse error: Unexpected identifier "Browser".
- Browser tools return "Browser extension is not connected".
- The native host is registered (~/.config/google-chrome/NativeMessagingHosts/com.anthropic.claude_code_browser_extension.json), running (claude.exe --chrome-native-host) and listening on /tmp/claude-mcp-browser-bridge-<user>/<pid>.sock, but the CLI process never connects to that socket (ss -xp shows no peer).
- The username has a domain suffix which appears in the socket directory name.
- It worked on earlier versions and stopped around 2026-09-23.
