Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

This is about the Claude Desktop app (macOS), not the CLI.

  1. On the working version (2.2553.13), the in-app banner "Update did not complete" appears. Quitting and relaunching does not help; the update never completes.
  2. Fresh install of the latest DMG from claude.ai/download (2.7032.0): after copying Claude.app to /Applications and opening it, macOS shows:

"“Claude” is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash."

The bundle itself is NOT damaged:

  • file .../Contents/MacOS/Claude → universal binary (x86_64 + arm64)
  • codesign --verify --deep --strict → valid on disk, satisfies its Designated Requirement
  • spctl -a -vv → accepted, source=Notarized Developer ID, origin=Developer ID Application: Anthropic PBC (Q6L2SF6YDW)
  • LSMinimumSystemVersion = 13.0 (requirement met)
  • After copying with ditto to /Applications, codesign/spctl still report valid/accepted

Launching the binary directly, the process stays alive with ~8 KB RSS and sample shows it stuck at _dyld_start — no libraries are ever loaded. macOS surfaces this hang as "damaged".

This looks like the same dyld/loading regression as #82071, but it also affects Intel / macOS 15.8, not only arm64 / macOS 26.

What Should Happen?

Claude Desktop 2.7032.0 (and the auto-update from 2.2553.13) should launch normally on an Intel Mac running macOS 15.8.

Error Messages/Logs

$ /Applications/Claude.app/Contents/MacOS/Claude & P=$!; sleep 8; ps -p $P -o rss=; sample $P 1 | grep -c _dyld_start

2

$ codesign --verify --deep --strict --verbose=2 /Applications/Claude.app
/Applications/Claude.app: valid on disk
/Applications/Claude.app: satisfies its Designated Requirement

$ spctl -a -vv /Volumes/Claude/Claude.app
/Volumes/Claude/Claude.app: accepted

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use an Intel Mac on macOS 15.8 (MacBook Air 2020, Core i5-1030NG7).
  2. Download the latest Claude Desktop DMG (2.7032.0) from claude.ai/download and open it.
  3. Copy Claude.app to /Applications (Finder drag, or ditto /Volumes/Claude/Claude.app /Applications/Claude.app).
  4. Open Claude → "“Claude” is damaged and can't be opened."
  5. Or run /Applications/Claude.app/Contents/MacOS/Claude directly → process hangs at _dyld_start with ~8 KB RSS.

On the same Mac, 2.2553.13 runs fine, but its auto-update to the new version never completes.

Additional Information

Environment:

  • Mac: MacBook Air (2020), Intel Core i5-1030NG7 @ 1.10GHz
  • macOS 15.8 (24H23), native x86_64 (not Rosetta)
  • Working: Claude Desktop 2.2553.13
  • Failing: Claude Desktop 2.7032.0

Workaround: staying on 2.2553.13 and ignoring the update banner.
