Summary

After the latest update of the Claude desktop app (Code tab), pasting images into the message box no longer works. Pressing Ctrl+V with an image in the clipboard attaches nothing — no thumbnail, no [Image #N] placeholder, no error. Before the update this worked normally on the same machine.

Environment

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26200
  • App: Claude desktop app, Code tab (updated on/around 2026-09-23; exact build not captured)
  • Clipboard source: Windows screenshot tool (Win+Shift+S) and copied images from the browser

Steps to reproduce

  1. Copy an image to the clipboard (e.g. Win+Shift+S).
  2. Focus the message input in the Code tab.
  3. Press Ctrl+V.

Expected

The image is attached to the message (thumbnail / [Image #N]) and sent to the model.

Actual

Nothing is attached. Text paste still works.

Workaround

Dragging the image file into the conversation, or saving it and referencing the file path.

Possibly related

#93429 (desktop app Code tab image handling), though that report describes a different symptom (image attached but source path dropped).
