What were you trying to do?

Use the GitHub connector in Claude to write changes to my repository (fideskey/e-commerce): create/update files, create branches, create issues, and — as an isolation test — create a brand new repository from scratch. This connector was working correctly for both reading and writing until about a week ago.

What happened instead?

Reading works fine (get_file_contents, etc.).

EVERY write operation fails with the same error, with no exceptions:
403 Resource not accessible by integration

Tested and confirmed on:

  • create_or_update_file → 403
  • create_branch → 403
  • issue_write (create) → 403
  • create_repository (a brand new repo, unrelated to the original one, to rule out an issue specific to that repo) → 403

Troubleshooting already done, without success:

  1. Verified permissions of the "Claude" GitHub App at github.com/settings/applications: "Read and write access to actions, checks, code, discussions, issues, pull requests, repository hooks, and workflows" is correctly granted, "All repositories" is selected, and there is no "Permission updates requested" pending (unlike other installed apps such as Cursor/Vercel, which do show that notice when something is pending).
  2. Verified the connector's own permissions inside Claude (Your connectors → GitHub): both "Read-only tools" and "Write/delete tools" (19) are set to "Always allow."
  3. Fully disconnected and reconnected the GitHub connector from Claude.
  4. Fully uninstalled and reinstalled the "Claude" GitHub App from scratch via github.com/apps/claude.
  5. Fully signed out of Claude and signed back in, then reconnected the connector.

The error is identical every time. Everything points to the installation token used by the connector not reflecting the write permissions that were already granted and accepted — likely still cached from a previous read-only installation.
