Problem

/clear resets the session color set with /color. After every /clear the color has to be set again.

This was reported before in #74352 and #86831. Both were closed as stale (NOT_PLANNED) rather than fixed, and the bot's closing note asked for a new issue if it's still relevant. It is.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start claude
  2. /color red
  3. /clear
  4. The prompt color is back to the default

Expected behavior

/clear resets the conversation context but keeps the session's display settings, including its color.

Notes

On a named session, /clear keeps the name but drops the color. In 2.1.280 the post-clear state is rebuilt as

standaloneAgentContext: p && e.standaloneAgentContext?.name ? { name: e.standaloneAgentContext.name } : void 0

so name is carried over and color is dropped. Carrying the color over the same way would fix this.

(Also note that e.g. "PR #153" is retained in the bottom text field after /clear; it is kinda weird to keep info we explicitly cleared but ditch the color.)

Related: #36928 (persistent color setting in settings.json). That would also work around this issue, but /clear keeping the color is the smaller fix.

Environment

  • Claude Code 2.1.280
  • Linux (WSL2)
