[DOCS] Missing documentation around if/where an actual mcp.json file exists for Claude Code

JSON-based config - is it supported? How?
Current Documentation
The docs currently give instructions for a bunch of manual processes to run manually-constructed CLI commands for every MCP server change. This is not scalable, and doesn't give team members the ability to easily share configs with each other. I'm facing this problem now on a new laptop: there's no way for me to copy-paste my prev config into a config file for Claude.
Making it worse: Claude Code itself has no idea what to do, and it has no clue how/where/if JSON-based modification is possible.
What's Wrong or Missing?
The documentation doesn't explain:
- Whether or not a JSON-based config file actually exists for Claude Code.
- Where it would be if it does exist.
Suggested Improvement
If it is possible to modify a MCP JSON file for Claude, can we add this to the docs? Specifically: where the file is located, or how to locate it.
If it is not possible to modify an MCP JSON file for Claude: can we explicitly declare this in the docs? Would have saved me 3 hours at this point to just know it is not supported.
Thanks in advance. Sorry if my tone comes across as irritated. I just want to hopefully improve this process for others and for my future self.
