Deleting a session in the desktop app leaves all of its files on disk
Deleting a session removes only the app's own session record, replacing it with a deleted_<id> tombstone. Everything Claude Code wrote for that session stays on disk: the transcript at ~/.claude/projects/<project>/<id>.jsonl, its <id>/ directory of subagent transcripts and tool results, the <id>.desktop-released.json marker, file-history/<id>/, uploads/<id>/ and session-env/<id>.
On one machine this was 540 MB across 27 deleted sessions, 563 MB including the ~/.claude/projects/ directories their agent sessions created. It is invisible in the app, and nothing reclaims it until the retention sweep ages the files out — which never happens for anyone who sets a long cleanupPeriodDays.
Expected: deleting a session deletes its files too.
Also worth noting: where a session's app id and CLI id differ, the tombstone keeps only a timestamp, so those files cannot be matched to the deleted session at all, even by hand.
Environment: Claude desktop 2.2553.1, macOS arm64.
