Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude desktop is built on Electron, which runs your Mac's native shell around a JavaScript engine called V8 (the same engine that runs inside Chrome). V8 has an internal mechanism where, when it thinks memory is getting tight, it calls a routine called LowMemoryNotification() to aggressively clean up unused memory. On macOS 26 specifically, something about how the OS signals memory pressure to apps is triggering a bug in that V8 routine — instead of cleaning up gracefully, it crashes with what's called EXC_BREAKPOINT (basically V8 hits an internal check it wasn't expecting to fail, and traps/aborts rather than continuing).

In your actual crash log, this happened on a background thread called V8Worker, inside V8's compiler and garbage-collector code specifically — not in anything to do with your data, your account, your files, or your RAM amount. It's a fault in the app's own bundled JavaScript engine reacting badly to your OS version.

This is why nothing you tried fixed it: it's not corrupted data (cache clear didn't help), it's not insufficient memory (16GB confirmed, and it's not really a real memory shortage — it's V8 falsely reacting as if there's memory pressure), and it's not an outdated build (you're on the latest version, and the bug is present in it). It's a genuine software defect in how this app version interacts with your specific macOS version, already reported by other users on GitHub, with no fix released yet.

What Should Happen?

we neeed to fix why its crashing

Error Messages/Logs

keeps crashing the app

Steps to Reproduce

Launch Claude desktop app (v2.2553.1) on macOS 26.3 (25D125)
Use the app normally — no specific action reliably triggers the crash; it has occurred during regular use over the course of a session
App quits abruptly with no crash dialog shown to the user
Crash report is generated at ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Claude-<timestamp>.ips

What I've already ruled out:

Cleared ~/Library/Caches/com.anthropic.claudefordesktop — did not resolve it
Fully uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version from claude.ai/download — did not resolve it
Confirmed system has 16GB RAM, not under heavy load from other apps at time of crash
Confirmed app reports itself as the latest available version

Crash details from the .ips report:

Exception type: EXC_BREAKPOINT, signal SIGTRAP
Faulting thread: V8Worker
Crash occurs inside V8 compiler/garbage-collector internals (v8::internal::compiler::..., cppgc::internal::PersistentRegionBase::Iterate)
app_version: 2.2553.1
os_version: macOS 26.3 (25D125)
