[Bug] Compact Command Fails with "Conversation Too Long" Error

Bug Description
When I have compact in ##% message it never works for me. When I do /compact I always get the message Error: Error during compaction: Error: Conversation too long. Press esc twice to go up a few messages and
try again. I have to go up very very far to get it to work if at all. Forces me to waste the remaining % left to force a forced compact because I don't like starting Claude on a task and get force compact in the middle of it. In my experiences it doesn't go as well as when Claude doesn't get interupted by compacting.
