[BUG] TUI status line doesn't update permission mode after /config change (fullscreen, macOS)

What's Wrong?

The TUI status line continues displaying "manual mode on" after switching to auto mode via /config. The setting changes successfully in settings.json (confirmed by the command output), but the display never updates—even after multiple turns or starting a new session.

What Should Happen?

Status line should update to "auto mode on" either:

• Immediately after /config command succeeds, OR
• After starting a new session with defaultMode: auto in settings.json

Steps to reproduce:

1. Verify ~/.claude/settings.json has "defaultMode": "auto" at line 19
2. Start Claude Code CLI (fullscreen TUI mode)
3. Observe status line shows "manual mode on"
4. Run /config → change permission mode to auto
5. Command outputs: "Set permissionMode to auto"
6. Submit 4+ prompts (allow time for UI refresh)
7. Exit and start new session

Expected: Status line shows "auto mode on"
Actual: Status line still shows "manual mode on"

• The permission mode setting itself changes correctly (verified via config command)
• Only the TUI display indicator fails to update
• Workaround: Check settings.json directly to verify actual mode
• The "manual mode on" text is appended by Claude Code's TUI
