Problem Statement

In the Claude Code desktop app (Windows), the @ file mention picker only suggests files up to 3 folders deep from the working directory. Files nested deeper never appear, even when I type the exact file name, while their parent folder does appear.

I work in a large Obsidian vault where projects are organized in nested folders, so many files I need to reference are 4+ levels deep. I can't tag them with @.

Proposed Solution

Include deeper files in @ mention suggestions, so typing part of a file name finds it regardless of depth. Alternatively, let me select a folder in the picker and then browse or search inside it, or make the depth limit configurable.

Alternative Solutions

Copying the file path manually and pasting it into the chat. It works but is slow and breaks the flow compared to @ mentions.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Use Case Example

  1. Open a session in the vault root.
  2. Type @ followed by a file name that exists 4 folders deep.
  3. No suggestion appears, although a file with a similar name 3 folders deep does.
  4. I have to find the file in my file explorer, copy its path, and paste it instead.
