Chrome extension reconnect: tab opens and closes in <1s, status stays disabled

Description
Running the /chrome (Reconnect extension) command opens a new browser tab which closes automatically in under 1 second. The mcp__claude-in-chrome__* tools remain unavailable afterward, and connection status stays "disabled".
Steps to reproduce
- In a Claude Code session, run
/chrometo reconnect the Claude in Chrome extension. - A new tab opens.
- The tab closes on its own in under 1 second.
- Status remains "disabled"; browser automation tools stay unavailable.
Troubleshooting already tried
- Disabled/re-enabled the extension in
chrome://extensions - Restarted the browser
Neither resolved the issue.
