Claude in Chrome extension not connecting to Claude Code (tabs_context_mpc returns "extension not connected")

Environment:

• OS: [Mac/Windows/Linux]
• Chrome version: [your version]
• Claude in Chrome extension: Installed and enabled

Issue:
The Claude in Chrome extension is installed, enabled, and I'm logged into claude.ai. However, when attempting to use browser automation tools (tabs_context_mpc), the extension returns "Browser extension is not connected" error.

Steps taken:

1. Installed Claude in Chrome extension from https://claude.ai/chrome
2. Verified extension is enabled in chrome://extensions
3. Logged into claude.ai
4. Restarted Chrome completely
5. Attempted tabs_context_mpc multiple times — all return connection error

Expected:
Extension should connect and allow browser automation

Actual:
Extension shows as enabled but won't connect to Claude Code for automation tasks
